As reported in Mac Tidbits (December 8th, 2008), Apple removed the Knowledgebase article that started this latest hullabaloo about Mac security, because it was "old and inaccurate". Update! (December 4th, 2008)
The New York Times reports "Apple yanks antivirus advice from its Web site".

The NYT article states:
'Apple late Tuesday yanked a controversial support document from its Web site that had urged Mac users to run antivirus software because the recommendation was "old and inaccurate," a company spokesman said Wednesday.

'The document, which had become the focus of considerable discussion among Mac users and security experts this week, is no longer available on Apple's support site."'

Original Story:
The recent claims (Dec 2008) that there may now be reason to install antivirus software on your Mac by The New York Times, The Washington Post, BBC, CNET and others are false alarms, according to this gizmodo article. The article points out that the Apple article #4454 on which these claims are based is not new, but has been on the Apple web site since June 2007 and was just recently updated to show the latest versions of existing antivirus software.
