Bluetooth - Wifi Interference
Tip Category:
Some MacBook Air users have reported a problem (under Mac OSX Lion) that affects Skype and other wifi connection-critical applications. The symptom is that internet connectivity can slow down drastically or even disappear momentarily, breaking a Skype call.
One cause of this problem appears to be interference between Bluetooth and Wifi. Consult the link below for more detail. However, this seems to happen when your Mac is trying to connect to a Bluetooth device that is not available.
For example, I have a trackpad that I sometimes connect to my MB Air. I find that if the trackpad is turned off or not within range and I do not tell my Mac to disconnect from the trackpad, the Mac will be constantly trying to find and connect to the trackpad. This disrupts the Wifi connection such that Skype calls will break up or just cut out.
In addition, the upload speed of your internet connection is drastically affected. The download speed is also somewhat affected under these circumstances. I use speedtest.net to measure Download/Upload speed.
