Having trouble with your printer or scanner? Here are some things to try:
1. Download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's web site - they're always free - (after all, the manufacturer wants you to be able to use your printer, so you have to buy their expensive ink to feed it!)
2. Check that your cables are plugged in (seriously!) and that they work. (If you're unsure, check them on another piece of equipment too.)
3. Delete/reinstall the drivers by deleting the printer or scanner in the System Preferences/Print & Scan panel.
4. Use Mac OSX Lion's Image Capture application (provided free in your Applications folder) for scanning.
